[LinuxBIOS] qemu missing openbios.elf within Config.lb?

Trying to build an image for qemu and am stumped as to how to get the openbios.elf file? [LinuxBIOS] flash_rom on Nvidia CK804

Hi, I want to flash a legacy BIOS on my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, but to make sure I don't screw up, I tried to backup the existing BIOS first. However, running a binary diff between the image extracted from the chip via flash_rom and the vendor-supplied image of the same BIOS version, it seems that a few sections differ. The image is 512 kb big. >From 0x0040000-0x005fff0, flash_rom reads only contents with all bits set, while the vendor-supplied image contains meaningful data there. >From 0x006e000-0x006e8c0, the contents also differ, but it seems that one is only meaningful for the extracted image. My first thought was to just exclude 0x006e000-0x006e8c0 from flashing, but the fact that flash_rom read only 0xff from 0x0040000-0x005fff0 made me worried. Do you have any suggestions how to find out whether the results above are expected? switch:/storage/LinuxBIOSv2-2251/util/flashrom # ./flashrom Calibrating delay loop... ok No LinuxBIOS table found. Hi, I just noticed, there are two identical intel southbridges in the v2 tree: The southbridge/intel/i82801er part is exactly the southbridge/intel/ich5r part. Seems like someone did not check what was there. ICH5R: dell/s1850 intel/jarrell momentum/apache supermicro/x6dhe_g2 supermicro/x6dhr_ig2 supermicro/x6dhr_ig 82801er tyan/s2735 Also, the ich5r version uses nice PCI names like PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_82801ER_ISA whereas the i82802er code uses PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_82801ER_1F0 where the 1F0 says absolutely nothing except maybe (guessing) the position of the device on the PCI bus in factory bios. Danger Will Robinson! We found certain (won't name them) PCI-X cards that consume HUGE amounts of power when held in RESET. What OS are you going to use? Things to be checked 1. settings for to make management card working 2. Is the LSI FW on BIOS flash or another separate flash? 3. Boot from SAS raid directly? We may need to use big IDE flash for using tiny kernel and kexec... [LinuxBIOS] some more tyan/s2881 questions

So the board is stable now. That's great. Some observations: 1. 'halt' no longer powers the machine off, which it does with the proprietary bios. 'halt -p' does the job though. LinuxBIOS oddity? 2. reboots seem to cause problems sometimes. I'm not sure yet what causes this, but I've had problems with the machine hanging after ACPI: Unable to locate RSDP It normally sits there for a few seconds, but I had the machine in such a state that it simply hung at that point. This may have had something to do with the IPMI card, which I'm experimenting with. I had to unplug the power before this problem went away, a cold restart didn't help. 1. Is there anything special in BIOS to be done for making serial over LAN or IPMI over LAN working with your BMC daughter card...? I mean connection to NIC shared or I2C. 2. The service processor does not have an RTC so it relies on the BIOS to set its time with Set SEL Time command but this could be easily done after boot with the OpenIPMI driver and ipmitool script. Flash of system BIOS can be done through the service processor as it has hooks into the LPC bus (system must be in reset for this to work). This means a LinuxBIOS port would not be overly dangerous since you can always flash a working BIOS by reloading SP firmware (which includes a system BIOS). > 2.
