Dear list,
lately some message came to the list in reaction to the post You can help out Coreboot! in the Ubuntu forums [1]. I do not know if one of you posted this, but I am wondering if maybe also the flashrom information would be useful?
Also in February Carl-Daniel posted a script for this purpose, which was never acked or commited to the repository [2][3].
If information is still needed maybe the script can be checked in, the proposed e-mail-addresses be setup and a page in the Wiki be created.
Maybe it is also beneficial to suggest a common subject, so that the messages can be searched better.
Thanks,
Paul

Is that kind of flood really useful ? Is someone using it to enhance coreboot ?
Those are genuinely naive questions, nothing harsh intended, because I can't remember seeing a reaction to those posts.

I don't think so. I'm afraid this call for action will cause more expectations than it will actually help, as the information is obsolete again in a mere couple of months. But who knows. Maybe someone is sitting with the stack of these messages and preparing lots of coreboot ports already :-)

Agreed. Such info posts are only useful if
(a) the northbridge/southbridge in question are already supported, and
(b) the reporter donates the resp. hardware to some developer to work on, or
(c) the reporter is willing and able to test patches on their board.

It is well-meant, but I actually doubt the usefulness right now. For one, we don't know for which hardware that stuff is generated. It may be good to keep the stuff around for later reference, but I don't know anybody who would have time to analyze these dumps in the next 3 months.

We should have a page called "Want to help?" in the wiki and post easy instructions there. Installing subversion is not what I consider to be easy. And we need to explain what our tools do so people can decide on their own whether they want to run the tools.
