DIMM relocation on Tyan S2885

Hello, I have an Opteron machine based on the Tyan K8W S2885 mainboard which is equipped with 8GB of RAM (8x1GB DIMM). The BIOS is mapping the PCI/AGP devices into the address space immediately below 4GB and so consequently, I am losing access to nearly an entire 1GB of RAM. I've spoken to Tyan about this and they acknowledged that it it is principle possible for the BIOS to remap the DIMM presently located at 3GB to 9GB but that they have no intention of including this option in their BIOS as it "penalizes 32-bit OS's that cannot use more than 4GB." So the question to the panel is: Will LinuxBIOS solve this problem for me? The task this machine was purchased for really does require as much RAM as possible. Intel 845G/GL/GV... support

Hello, I saw a thread a couple of weeks ago regarding LinuxBIOS support for the Intel 845G/GL chipset. I've noticed a bit of work in the freebios CVS tree done for the southbridge (ICH4 -- src/southbridge/intel/82801db/*) but none for the northbridge (82845G/GL/GV). My question is who owns/is responsible for this port/code? I'd like to contact them directly to see if I can help. -don

DirectFB Minit-itx?

Hello, Im interested in a M1000 with the CLE266 tv-encoder(mpeg2)/Matrox G550 chipset for a PVR type applications id like to use Linuxbios to boot the system quicker, As well as boot directly into Tv-output through DirectFB. DirectFB has support for calling Tv-output once booted, but I'd like to activate it during boot can this be done with linuxbios ? Dylan D.

Ron, You need to set the REG in some special position. Because ht_scanbus, may reset some regs according to it's scan result. I think the best to use VGA is 1. LinuxBIOS init critical regs to make sure VGA can be used in Linux kernel. 2. Linux Kernel does the special work to make use some acceleration function works. 3. Let X Server no changes. Ron, It seems the s2885 code in CVS tree is out of date, please check code in my tree. So the card works, is accessible, but the bridge is invisible (in normal bios). ron

Tyan S2885 + K8 + Nvidia GEForce FX 5600 + testbios: WORKS!

We just brought up an AGP card using the freebios/util/vgabios/testbios code! It's an Nvidia and it works fine. I think the emulator path is going to work for linuxbios. There are still some sharp corners to round off but this is really exciting. This is as far as we have ever come with VGA support that will work safely and across all architectures. I will be putting a fix into the linuxbios resource code to deal with the problems we encountered. It is a trivial fix. It is amazing how well the resource setup code in V2 is working, however; bridges and things just tend to get set up correctly. Anyway, just thought you'd all want to know. ron

I used 2.4.22 and CPU type is AMD64. Actually I used Redhat 9 for AMD64 beta, and then compile the 2.4.22 in 64 bit mode. After that I can see the 8151.
