Is there a way to store contact information or in case of emergency information in a payload in the event my laptop if lost or stolen?
You could add a custom message to a SeaBIOS boot menu screen, by a manual modding of its' sources.

Hi Tom,
you could add a splash screen to your coreboot/SeaBIOS (also as background of GRUB) that contains contact info and is visible on every boot.
