Nope; I suggested using the I2C bus only! Only issue is getting the correct voltages onto the board.
Great idea - just clip it onto the SPD EEPROM. A PIC and RS232 transceiver are all you need.

I'd use an MSP430, not a PIC, but same idea yes. And making your own DIMM is easier than piggybacking it onto an SPD. Main problem stays: does a DIMM socket carry the right voltages?
