#154: Flashing BIOSes from Fujitsu/Siemens is not supported ---------------------------------------+------------------------------------ Reporter: johannesobermayr@… | Owner: carldani Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: flashrom | Version: Keywords: | Dependencies: Patchstatus: there is no patch | ---------------------------------------+------------------------------------ As summary says I cannot flash BIOSes provided by Fujitsu/Siemens.
You can see BIOS architecture from Fujitsu/Siemens if you download for example this BIOS package (for D1326): http://dl- extern3.treiberupdate.de/download2/123525.EXE
I also could not find a suitable converter...

Comment:
They seem to deliver changesets rather than a complete image. I don't think we can do much about that unless Fujitsu opens up their data format. I suggest that you flash one machine with the DOS program, then read the image from flash with coreboot and flash the resulting image on the other machines of the same type.

Comment(by hailfinger):
This is for a machine manufactured in 2001. I looked at the incremental update files (or whatever they are) and they share a common structure, but reverse engineering them is probably not worth it.
If current machines still use that update mechanism, please tell us.

Comment (by johannesobermayr@…):
First I wrote to Fujitsu and asked whether they want support by answering your questions here.
Their answer was: they need an ID of my system.
So I wrote to them: I do not believe that they support a 10 year old system, I do not have the ID by hand (system was 250 km away) and mentioned that my question was not a direct support request for a specific system.
I also mentioned they can also benefit when supporting flashrom or coreboot by providing some information (may even by NDA).
But as usual: I have not got an answer since then (~ 1.5 months).
So I can only dream: A day is coming all "bad" companies falling down from their high horse and providing their specifications.
Just for info: You can download a BIOS update file for a current System here: http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=B64C...
May it has the same structure and reverse engineering is worth a try ...
Thanks in advance.
