I think that Stephen has already clearly indicated that there is no problem when SATA for the second CK8-04 is disabled.
Does the Tyan S2885 hardware (with COTS BIOS) support SATA on the second CK8-04? If so, the mptable should have the entries required to support SATA on the second CK8-04.
