I think this could be used to develop something like native radeon video init. Perhaps similar approach was used by ron & co develop native intel video init.

Yes, I also knew about mimotrace but I used ron's prink format instead.

Yes, It can work: on my m4a785t-m, long time ago, The kernel could init the GPU, alone: To do that, put the vga option rom in ram but don't run it, seabios does load it, just comment the line where it calls the function that runs it. Then the display was inited when Xorg loaded (because it loaded the radeon driver at that point).
Note the the lemote laptop(not the netbook) also has the same chipset, so maybe some people having that laptop would be interested.
