That bit means x4 DIMM.

I don't have the list at hand, but the only difference in SPD-ROM that is actually read by LinuxBIOS is the "Primary SDRAM Width" byte.
As far as I see it, there are 8x and 16x DIMMs as well, and they also need the x4 DIMM bit set in the DRAM controller to work.
With that bit set they do work nicely though.
