question: When exactly one goes for ADLO, because the direct elf image boot is also possible from LinuxBIOS. Could someone please elaborate on this.

I made a mistake. Sorry. This is what I had to do.
dd if=elfImage of=/dev/hda bs=4096 seek=1
This leaves partition tables, mbr, etc. intact.
