Is a Doc is necessary?

Who can tell me whether a Doc is necessary for linuxbios? Can I burn on a ROM only?

DoC is nice but not necessary. On many chipsets you can not use DoC 
because the socket is not compatible or the chipset is so complex. On all 
the e7500 machines doc is not useable.
