Hi,
I finally got my Jetway J7F41G2E-PB board. I have identified the BIOS chip as a Winbond W39V040BPZ.
Does anyone know where I can order an extra chip that I use as a backup? Also, does it have to be a Winbond W39V040BPZ or can I get an alternative? Preferably I would like to get one at a local electronics shop, but the one I went to said he didn't have it, and that it would be very difficult to get one. I find that hard to believe, though.
Should I try another electronics shop, or are you guys sure I won't it there?
Kind regards, Richard.

Where do you live? We know lots of sources for such chips and can tell you the right ones for the country you're living in.

I live in The Netherlands, in a town called Tzum.
Thanks!

I had the same chip (it was really ruined after some failed erase tries, it even answered with an invalid vendor ID) and replaced it with a SST chip of the same size. I can dig up the model number of the new compatible chip if the other answers you got were insufficient.

SST SST-49LF080A will also work.
Part Number: SST49LF080A-33-4C-NHE

Alright, I think I will try this one then, also based on the other replies that the Winbond will probably not flash with the chipset I use.

Must not be Winbond at all.
And I don't know about others, but I haven't been able to get that chip to program with the v8237r and flashrom. It programs fine in a programmer and works fine, but either erase or write doesn't work correctly. I've successfully used PMC (now pflash?) pm49fl004 and winbond w38v080a, which are both part of BIOS Savior RD1s.
I'll see if I can find pm49fl004 as well. Is it compatible with the Winbond chip I have?

Is it the same SST chip Bari suggested?
Thanks everyone!

Pm49FL004 will also work.

Well, the postman finally delivered my chips :)
However, there's a little problem. I thought I had ordered the SST49FL040A-90-4C-NH, but it turns out I ordered SST28SF040A-90-4C-NH instead.
Luckily I also ordered the PMC Pm49FL004T-33JC, so hopefully I can still continue my ventures :)
Any chance the SST28SF040-90-4C-NH will work though? I'm a little afraid to damage the board, so I won't try until someone confirms.

No chance. Wrong interface. It is not a LPC flash.

The Swedish distributors have told me that Winbond is not at all interested in small sales volumes such as this.
And for someone to keep stock is not very likely, since this is an infrequent sale.

Will the SST49LF080A-33-4C-NH (512Kx8) work as well? This probably qualifies as a stupid question, but I just want to make sure.
The Winbond chip is 512Kx8 as well.

Oops, I meant SST49LF040-33-4C-NH... Sorry about that.

That part was EOLed last year, but it will work if you can find it.
