well, I've got this sun ultra 40, nice box, sun-designed mobo, lots of clever stuff. And, for some reason, they did not put on a serial port. Thus proving that it is possible to be too clever. Oh well, now the fun begins. I guess it will get worse from here on out. Please, mobo vendors, just put on the serial port. USB is not an option. ron

Hi! I have a small Geode LX + CS5536 board (433MHz, 128MB DDR, UART2 as serial). With the help of those changes in GX2/OLPC target (patch attached) I have managed to boot it at least (it still doesn't load VSA nor boot any payload). The changes should be mostly marked with comment '// GX3' to ease further development. This is really ugly hack...sorry guys. But some day I hope there will be correct LX support with separate target. I can't provide any timetable though nor say how much I can work on it. But hey... linuxbios rules and I am keen to help. thanks, Indrek

[LinuxBIOS] Mainboard-Configuration

Hello! First, I really like the idea and the work around linuxbios. For my PhD research in new medical solutions I need a very special PC-configuration: The PC must be absolutely silent and, however, be powerful. The next point is, that the PC should use as less boot time as possible. This is why I think about a linuxbios - compatible board. Due the mainboard will be put in a small case, I can just use mini- or micro atx boards. The only boards in this size I could determine are VIA-EPIA boards. Unfortunately, they are too slow for my applications. For passive cooling and long battery usage I thought about a Turion or Sempron CPU. So in one sentence, I am looking for an mini or micro atx board, compatible with AMD Turion (Sempron), which supports linuxbios. Is there anyone who can help me? Many thanks, greetings, Morly

[LinuxBIOS] Flashrom support to VIA VT8235

Hi, I am trying to get flashrom work with my MB, a PM800, it use a VIA VT8235 0430CE 23811913461 chipset. Flashrom don't detect this chipset, because it IS NOT 0x1106:0x3177 as expected by flash_enable.c, then I add 0x1106:0x3227 (VT8235 ISA Bridge of my board) to it call "enable_flash_vt8235". When I executed it at first time I received this warning: "Enabling flash write on VT8235...tried to set 0x44 to 0x54 on VT8235 failed (WARNING ONLY)" BUT every time I execute it now I just receive: "Enabling flash write on VT8235...OK" I want your opinion, is flashrom detecting my chipset or no? Both the northbridge and southbridge are noted in the lspci output. There are two DIL chips; LRTS6121A and ICS CA530347A 0507 952703BF Is this what you need? Sorry This seems to be the mainboard which matches the one I have most closely; http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Product/motherboard_detail.aspx?ID=en-us00001… The problem with this mainboard is that it doesn't seem to like Linux boot systems. I have the Gentoo 2006.0 LiveCD Installer, and have installed this onto hda, but the system will not boot giving a non system disk error message. I've also contacted EdLUG about this as well. I was hoping that if LinuxBIOS is compatible, I can flash it to the memory and it will be able to boot the system. what does "platform get console" tell you? [LinuxBIOS] GA-6BXC support

Hi, I have access to an old GA-6BXC motherboard (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductI…) which I'll probably use for my first steps with LinuxBIOS. I see that FreeBIOSv1 had support for this motherboard, but not v2. Is there some technical reason for this? I'll probably try v1 first, but I'd like to move to v2 sooner or later. Should I get another motherboard or can I try to port the code to v2? How much effort does that require, usually? [LinuxBIOS] can't see printk messages

I am trying to run LB on the AMD quartet board, it gets into hardwaremain() before it gets hung and at that time it puts ff to port 80, which is good in one way since at least I can see the postcodes up to that point. but it does not display anything to the console. The printk messages such as "Copying LinuxBios to ram" are not visable. I am running in the SImNow simulator, and I believe someone said it does not need extra steps to initialize VGA. How do I get the printk text messages to be visable? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Dan
