romcc questions

Hi, I'm trying to get freebios2 going on a VT8606/VT82C686B board with a 533MHz VIA C3 processor. When trying to compile romcc, it gets to simple_test26 but reports it is out of registers. Can someone give me some indication of what is going on here? Thanks... ...John...

Can you find out what they use for the keyboard controller? You may have to care about power management, SystemBIOS reflashing and the lid etc. or those features may not work depending on how they did the hardware design. Like I have said before there is really no standard for this. Hardware guys like myself typically use whatever I/O pins are left over to solve these issues and then make it work with firmware attached to the keyboard BIOS. Magazine article on USB and Embedded systems

Hello from Gregg C Levine An article in last months issue of ECN discusses the problems and circumstances regarding the USB port. Specifically the use of the port in embedded systems. At the end the editor of the magazine, who also happened to be the article's author, asked for any messages from people who succeeded in using a USB port in a non M$ system. I mentioned in that message, my efforts at getting my system to make better use of its USB ports, those efforts included using a CF reader, and a pair of Thumb Drives. And of course my next efforts. I also included in those next efforts, those that are following the work of Mr. James. For those that are interested I will be happy to forward a copy of that message to the author. Since we've been discussing the merits of just such a setup, and how to do that I mentioned it, and referred the author to the web site, and to examine the archives on the site, or wherever they are stored. I'm sure he'll be able to find them. Filo and cardbus (EPIA MII)

I have an EPIA MII, which has an on-board CF adapter. Unfortunately it is not an IDE interface, but rather cardbus. I know I could just buy a cheap CF-IDE adaptor, but it just seems a shame that I can't boot from a CF card in that slot. I was wondering how difficult it would be to add support to FILO to enable that device and read from it. I'm not familiar with device drivers, but it seems to me that enough of the pieces of the puzzle are there (open source drivers for the hardware, e.g. yenta socket) and that a solution could be crafted. Has anyone else considered it? Thanks, Larry Matter

LinuxBIOS available for Asus A7N8X

Hi, is LinuxBIOS available for the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mainboard? Better to say: Would I crash my ROM when I try to flash it with LinuxBIOS. I'm really interested in LinuxBIOS for use in quick boot devices such as mp3-player for car's which based on computers. Greets Christoph

I agree. We can use LinuxBIOS + boot from USB stick, the elf or kernel+rootfs is in usb stick. After that we can use everything about USB in Kernel.
