first attempt... almost. :-)

I cut the trace, enabled flash and flashed it. I'm now the proud owner of a doorstop. :-) At the end of this email is a paste from the serial log. It boots, says it jumps to RAM, my HDD light flickers (I'm using the BOOT_IDE flag) and then it starts over again. A couple of questions: Is it saying it's happy with the system RAM? I do not have a kernel image at the location I said it would be at in the config file, which is why I _think_ that it is rebooting, but I thought there'd be some kind of log message stating something to that effect. My other question is one I probably already know the answer to: is there a serial-port flash util in LinuxBIOS? It's not a big big deal, I knew the risks going in to this but I'd like to try and get around desoldering a TQFP part and buying the adaptor (and socket) if I can help it. These motherboards were only $10, it seems silly to spend hundreds to reflash it. :-) (and yeah, the date is right... it's been over a month since I've been really working on it. :-) Regards, Andrew LinuxBIOS-1.0.0 Mon Nov 25 21:39:06 EST 2002 starting... Getting junk character in Serial Ouput.

Hi, I am getting following message through the serial output. The message is SDRAM TEST Passed. After that I am doing MTRR Initializing. In the serial output I am getting some character. Hello again, I've been playing some more with existing configurations to figure out how to fix the tiara code to work in the linuxbios code for my board. I've got all the config files in place and a mainboard config file setup based on the example of others. I have placed copies of the common files like mainboard.c from other projects, just for the time being, until I have more of an idea what to put in them. I have configured a few of the other example boards to see how it all fits together and have learned a bunch. What I am now wondering about is the functions that are placed in the mainboard.c file. Are those mainboard specific? Where are they coming from? Defined in other files? How do I know whether I need them? Can someone explain to me what the purpose of the functions in a mainboard.c file are for? I'll keep looking. I have a funny suspicion that they are to setup the io and chipset and ram or whatnot. I haven't figure it all out yet, I'll be looking at more of the assembly for the actual function and where it came from etc... Any pointers would be nice. I think when I am done with this I'll help out with some docs for newbies coming from my perspective. I have a hankering after buying a few (maybe 2 or 4) EPIA motherboards for experimenting with clustering and maybe Linuxbios. For use at home, in a small apartment. Don't know if I will REALLY part with the cash, but can anyone who has either an EPIA5000 or an EPIA800 board plese comment? The EPIA5000 has the advantage of being passive cooled and using a low power processor, but the specs says the CPU doesn't have as much horsepower as the C3 in the EPIA800. Any experiences with their noise levels, CPU power, etc. etc. gratefully received. Decisions, decisions...

Finally... We have got the irq assignment working. Here are the checkins cpu/c3/premtrr.inc lib/newpci.c - added added pci_level_irq and pci_assign_irqs lib/vsprintf.c southbridge/via/vt8231/ideconfig.inc mainboard/via/epia/Config mainboard/via/epia/irq_tables.c mainboard/via/epia/mainboard.c northbridge/via/vt694/northbridge.c southbridge/via/vt8231/southbridge.c superio/via/vt8231/setup_ethernet.inc However there are still some minor problems, eg 1. linuxbios willl hang at pci scanning devfn > 0xa8 when rebooting 2. linux might hange when pci scanning devfn > 0xa8 That could be a hardware problem according to Ron. 3. pirq semi-working. Although irq is being assigned correctly, device doesn't work. Luckily we can force irq. Kevin still has some extra stuffs to add, eg, non-block console display. I will work on it later. Alternate solution: I've seen other boards where certain PCI addresses cause hangs. If you want to have full kernel PCI support, you might want to make a patch that lets you skip bad PCI addresses. i.e. some new kernel parameters like "badpci=foo,foo,...". In this case "badpci=0xa8". This might be useful in the future. Dear anant, I came across your link in some SDCC page. I am interested only in the windowz version for the time being. I want to know whether it is very efficient as that of the KEIL C CROSS COMPILER .. Will it be possible to handle floating points ? Will a normallly written C program run without any hitch ??? Steve just gave me a bunch of neat stuff. pc chips m787+, and stpc consumer 2. The logo and two vga fonts. vga support functions. I have checked the patches and they seem fine, although I hope Ollie or Andrew Ip will double-check the 630 support. thanks ron
