I have successfully built coreboot-v2-3119 with a FILO payload and booted my Asus a8v-e_se mainboard with the resulting image. However, VGA is not initialized and I can only interact with it via serial console. The video card is a PNY Nvidia 7900GS PCIe card.
I can boot Linux from my SATA disk normally except a few devices aren't working, most notably the video card. Neither Linux nor the proprietary Nvidia driver see any VGA devices. When I reflash the legacy Award BIOS I copied from the BIOS before installing the coreboot image, everything returns to normal and the VGA card works.
I tried to follow the wiki page http://www.coreboot.org/VGA_support, so I opened src/mainboard/asus/a8v-e_se/Options.lb. However, that file contains the following lines instead of ones starting with "option" as in the wiki:
#VGA default CONFIG_CONSOLE_VGA=1 default CONFIG_PCI_ROM_RUN=1
So, I'm not sure what that means. Has the configuration method changed? Do the default lines enable those features? During boot, I see many initialization messages on the serial console from coreboot, but nothing about VGA or PCI_ROM_RUN. The wiki page http://www.coreboot.org/ASUS_A8V-E_SE_Build_Tutorial doesn't have much in the way of instructions, but it does say that PCIe video cards work. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Ran in the proprietary BIOS as well as all messages from the serial console as attachments? I have an PCIe ATI card and it does work great. What other devices are not working?
Can you give me also a cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > /tmp/dsdt.bin file?

The frequency scaling driver powernow_k8 does not seem to work after booting with coreboot. I'm very new to coreboot, but it seemed to me that this was related to DSDT, which I haven't done anything about yet.
Can you give me also a cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > /tmp/dsdt.bin file?
Do I need to somehow use that DSDT from the Award BIOS when I boot using coreboot to get things like frequency scaling working?

The frequency scaling driver powernow_k8 does not seem to work after booting with coreboot. I'm very new to coreboot, but it seemed to me that this was related to DSDT, which I haven't done anything about yet.
Well I'm working on some tool to teach coreboot how to create the PSS objects. If you want to get frequency scaling working.
1) acpidump -t SSDT -b >ssdt.bin 2) iasl -d ssdt.bin 3) send it here ;) you should see some PSS PCT objects. I will tell how to put this into the dsdt.asl in src/mainboard/asus....
Do I need to somehow use that DSDT from the Award BIOS when I boot using coreboot to get things like frequency scaling working?

Yes, that does seem to be the case. I've tried two Nvidia PCIe cards (a 7900GS and a 6600GT) with both 3118 and 3119 and none of those combinations works. However, an ancient 32-bit Cirrus Logic VGA card works with both versions of coreboot. Unfortunately, I don't have an ATI or other type of PCIe card to try right now.

So, I'm not sure what that means. Has the configuration method changed? Do the default lines enable those features? During boot, I see many initialization messages on the serial console from coreboot, but nothing about VGA or PCI_ROM_RUN. The wiki page http://www.coreboot.org/ASUS_A8V-E_SE_Build_Tutorial doesn't have much in the way of instructions, but it does say that PCIe video cards work. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Can you try reverting to revision 3118 (svn up -r3118)? r3119 made a change to how we detect VGA card presence, which *should* have corrected a very old bug, but might not have. Please send bootlogs (up to elfboot) from both revisions if anything changes, if not just one.

Can you try reverting to revision 3118 (svn up -r3118)? r3119 made a change to how we detect VGA card presence, which *should* have corrected a very old bug, but might not have. Please send bootlogs (up to elfboot) from both revisions if anything changes, if not just one.

yes, this wiki page is really wrong, I just realized.
We should not be telling people to mess with those files, unless they are going to commit those changes to the svn. People should only ever need to change files in the targets/ directory. If they need to change some other config files, then we have a bug or we need to make an improvement.
Can whoever wrote that page get in touch with me so we can try to fix it up?
