to check out from cvs ...
cvs -d:pserver:[e-mail]:/cvsroot/freebios login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[e-mail]:/cvsroot/freebios co freebios

You really should try to work from CVS if you possibly can, so you can
keep current.
