Carl-Daniel what does this have to do with anything?

I placed this under my user page because it is still a draft. Basically, the idea behind this page is to encourage women to become active coreboot developers/users. Compared to other lowlevel free software projects, we have a pretty OK female/male ratio, but since we're developer-starved (in the sense of having enough TODO items to keep everyone busy for more than a year), any way to recruit additional developers seems good to me. Saying that we explicitly welcome participation from women may get us mentioned in a few key blogs and possibly result in increased participation.
I hope the explanation above is sufficient. If not, feel free to ask.

You don't get closer to hw than coreboot, you can barely get geekier than coreboot. What you're hoping for here is as likely to happen as getting hit by lightning, and even when that happens, it's going to be over quickly, so why bother? Why not work on attracting more geeky people who like being close to hw?
Luc Verhaegen.
Why not work on attracting more geeky people who like being close to hw?
Well, i think the point in this is that anybody (also women) can be "people who like being close to hw", so we should work on attracting anybody who likes to be close to hw :)

Basically, there are three points to consider AFAICS. 1. If we mention women explicitly, it means we see and officially acknowledge a deficit even if that is not our fault. 2. Is explicitly inviting women insulting to them? After all, treating them like everyone else would mean we'd not mention them explicitly. I actually got conflicting answers from women for this question. 3. Are there other groups which are insulted because we explicitly invite women, but not $GROUP? I think Joe brought up this point.
I added a sentence to http://www.coreboot.org/User:Hailfinger/Drafts/Friendliness which hopefully is generic and broad enough. "We welcome participation from every human being, regardless of gender/ethnicity/views/..."
http://www.coreboot.org/User:Hailfinger/Drafts/Women will probably become a redirect to .../Friendliness soon.

Right, it maybe putting them in the spot light?

Right. That's why the safe answer is EVERYONE.

Sounds good, fair to every human being.
Just worth noting: the cofounder of the LinuxBIOS project, from which this all began in 1999, was Sung-Eun Choi: http://www.coreboot.org/File:For_scale.jpg
She created our original logo and web page, wrote code, wrote papers, got us to conferences, and did a lot of other work. She is an accomplished CS researcher in her own right and now works at Cray.

Now something like that may be worth mentioning on the Wiki. That's the kind of stuff we all can aspire for! :-)
