You just have to love ACPI. Or any other binary standard, for that matter.
In a simliar vein, I wonder if we'll find it almost impossible to run EFI drivers under non-EFI software ...

But who wants to run EFI drivers anyway? If I had EFI, the first thing I would want is getting rid of it.
