Hello! Would anyone care to comment on the status of Kexec functions within the kernel or for that matter support within Linux as a whole?
I managed to resurrect the entire tree of my work from much earlier, and came across from 2003 of all things a directory of my work then with regards to Kexec. It happens that at the time I wasn't running on a P3 family member and realized that the stored stuff was indeed based on that former machine's profile.
I was reminded of the whole business by the earlier discussion concerning yet another boot loader for inclusion within LinuxBIOS.

kexec is out there in the kernel and people use it.
You don't need your own version any more.

Hello! Yes it is. It turns out that my development system was running a generic 2.6.18 kernel and naturally it (the Kexec function) wasn't turned on. So I ran the make xconfig functions and built in containing that function plus a few others. And it booted back up without the usual issues.
I also found a fairly recent snapshot of the tools for what Eric's Kexec function evolved into. My next steps will be to work with it that way.
I will be presenting more on this later. Oh and thank you Ron for bringing this to my attention. -- Gregg C Levine hansolofalcon@worldnet.att.net "The Force will be with you. Always." Obi-Wan Kenobi
