Sorry, I should have mentioned it:

$ git log --oneline 24.12 -1
     a1532790b9 (tag: 24.12) docs: Add 24.12 release notes

$ git log --oneline refs/tags/24.12 -1 # Is that the correct command?
     a1532790b9 (tag: 24.12) docs: Add 24.12 release notes

So, Matt’s explanation makes sense.
