I would most rather do what we're doing on OLPC: linux in flash, since linux works well with usb.
Linux kernel in flash for real fast power-on to boot is the plan. "Instant on" for set-top-box and thin/media client applications. No legacy ports: serial, parallel, PATA, PS2.
