Please don't do this. That's what the list archive is for. If you want you can add a link to the respective thread, but not copy-paste the whole thing (including signatures!).
If it's _really_ important it should be in the code as a code comment anyway. The commit log is not the right place for this.
The commit log is there for a thorough description of the commit including its reasons. The discussion fits the description nicely.
