All, After looking at the problems this "simple" commit caused, I've rolled it back to the revision before my commit (2005->2003). I'll go over these changes with Tom and Eric and try again later. hello dear bios-workoholics, does anybody know, if there is only one bios on the motherboard, or if every single hardware device or item of a PC-System, like hard-disk or cd/dvd-rom drive or pci-card or floppy, has an own little bios-chip, for to be recognized by BIOS on mainboard ??? the ques is, for example, if PC beginner simply plug off such a device, while PC is switched on, and "damage" this device, that probably this device is not damaged, cause you only need to re-flash this little BIOS-chip or hardware-TM-brand-chip of concerning device ??? or ? tuvm for response

[LinuxBIOS] some questions....

Dear all , I have some questions , hope you can give me some idea 1.What is the difference between normal booting and fallback booting? When linuxbios will use normal booting and when linuxbios will use fallback booting? I remember I use the hdama code , and it always use fallback booting, and now my new porting it always use normal booting. 2.VGA problem, I tried to add VGA, I have succeeded before when I use hdama code , now I follow the same way , but I got a message "Incorrect Expansion Rom Header Signature ffff ", I trace the code and found the rom_address become fc000000, not the fff80000 we have set, could anyone tell me what mistakes I made?Does it related to my question 1? Thanks...

Has anyone looked at what it would take to get Solaris booting under Linuxbios on Opteron? If not I might dig around (there is a modified grub - I think that does some of the init work; one suspects that because of its heritage it is quite BIOS-unencumbered). justin

Hi. I'm new in this, and i'm reading the source and i have a question, which one it's exactly the first instruction that the processor execute when the pc is booting?, in which file is it? I don't complete understand the relationship between a normal bios and the kernel, i think that the bios it's has to pass some data to the kernel, if that's true ¿how exactly is that data passed to the kernel? In linuxbios, how it's this issue handle? [LinuxBIOS] Suggestions for a digital video recording system?

Hi all, I was going to give LinuxBIOS a try in order to reduce the start-up time of my VDR based digital TV tuner and recorder. Currently, it takes 40 seconds to start up, of which slightly over 10 seconds is spent in BIOS. Last night, I tried to migrate the system from a VIA686 based mainboard to a i440ZX based one (Asus P2-99 with a 933 MHz Pentium 3 and 256 MB RAM). The machine felt unreliable (often, it hanged with a black screen after reset, sometimes even after power-on) and also old: there is no on-board sound. I have followed the development of VIA Mini-ITX (Epia) boards, and I would like to know if there are OpenFirmware or LinuxBIOS based solutions, or how far the Epia support of LinuxBIOS is from being useable? I will need a programmable wake-up timer (nvram-wakeup) and, if possible, wake-on-LAN. The board should have either well-supported onboard video (VIA CLE266 is a bit tricky) or an AGP slot. Some PCI slots and IDE are needed as well. Unless there is hardware MPEG-2 acceleration, the processor should be equivalent to a 700 to 900 MHz Pentium 3. Marko

[LinuxBIOS] Potential copyright issues with decompiling ACPI tables?

I haven't spend much time working with ACPI tables, but there may be copyright issues with decompiling these on a COTS BIOS and using the result in LinuxBIOS.
