Multiboot support

Hi, I'm thinking that it'd be interesting for coreboot to have direct support for Multiboot, so that Multiboot kernels can be used directly without GRUB/FILO as middle man (somewhat like this thing you call "LAB"). When I brought this up on IRC, Patrick expressed concerns about size. I suppose the best would be to give users the option to provide either coreboot tables or Multiboot, whatever is needed for their payload, instead of adding both things unconditionally. Nevertheless I don't expect the basic Multiboot support to be excessively big. Patch: J2F[24] mainboard

Attached please find a patch to add the "jetway j7f[24]*" mainboard. As compared to the Via Epia CN, this changes the superio to a Fintek F71805F as described at http://www.coreboot.org/Jetway_J7F2_Build_Tutorial It also creates the mainboard tree for this series of motherboards (Jetway J7F2 and J7F4). I've tested it with one motherboard (J7F2WE1G3), and I believe it works with the others, as the differences among them are mostly trivial (processor speed, chipset and quantity of LAN cards, audio chipset, etc.). A list of the relevant motherboards with specs can be found at http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard_socket.asp?platid=16 The irq_tables.c is copied directly from the epia-cn, because the one generated by getpir with the factory BIOS did not work properly while the EPIA-CN one did. Jetway J7F2 target

Since the Jetway J7F2* and J7F4* motherboards appear to work fine, what can be done about getting targets for them? Mine at least (J7F2WE1G3) works without changing the irq_tables. The only change is in mainboard/via/epia-cn/Config.lb, changing "chip superio/via/vt1211" to "chip superio/fintek/f71805f". However, it would be nice(r) if there was a targets/jetway/j7f2 and presumably a src/mainboard/jetway/j7f2. I assume there would need to be some way of ensuring that the other files, like mainboard.c, auto.c, etc. stayed synchronised between them though. What needs to be done for a j7f2 target to be created? -Alex Mauer "hawke"

Thanks for the quick reply! This board uses a National PC97317 Super-I/O chip, and the only reference to a serial port I see in auto.c is a call to function pc97317_enable_serial(), where it passes the value of TTYS0_BASE. suspend/resume in v3

Discussing on IRC, ruik pointed out that we of course have to consider suspend and resume in v3. He wrote some great pointers on the topic today and I'm pasting here for archival and as food for thought. <ruik> CareBear\: the S3 works this way: <ruik> 1) get the wakeup info from chipset <ruik> 2) in intraphase ask the memory to go out of self refresh (skip train) <ruik> 3) do coreboot chipset init as usual <ruik> 4) when creating ACPI tables look to that place, in one table there will be OS waking vector <ruik> 5) after all done, jump to OS instead of payload, switch A20 on go to real mode and jump <ruik> 6) do this all steps in reserved memory, do not corrupt system memory used by OS <ruik> 7) minor fix for ACPI dsdt is needed, just one line ;) <ruik> CareBear\: just add one line to SLP <ruik> similar to bit for S5 and S0 <ruik> one more caveat <ruik> make sure that suspend signal clock from SB is understood by superIO <ruik> so superIO wont cut RAM power I think 6) in particular deserves some consideration. //Peter
