[LinuxBIOS] [ANNOUNCE] Automated and Distributed Test System for LinuxBIOS

Dear LinuxBIOS community, it's about time to release the automated and distributed test system for LinuxBIOS. The test system creates a framework to run images created by the automatic build system (known from http://snapshots.linuxbios.org/ a.k.a http://qa.linuxbios.org/) on real hardware. So from now on LinuxBIOS binary images can be downloaded from http://qa.linuxbios.org/ that are known to work on at least one mainboard of the given type. I started a page gathering all the information about the test system in the Wiki. Please help completing it: http://linuxbios.org/Distributed_and_Automated_Testsystem Get a short overview on the test system from the slides of the talk I held at the LinuxBIOS symposium 2006: http://www.coresystems.de/PDFs/LinuxBIOS-testing/Slides-LinuxBIOS-QA.pdf Since nobody is supposed to have the 50+ mainboards supported by LinuxBIOSv2 at a single place, the system works distributed and single boards can be hooked up to the test system with relatively cheap components. So please do understand this announcement as a call for participation. This test system is only of value if we get many boards tested on a regular basis. Are you working for a mainboard or system vendor that supports LinuxBIOS? Are you a developer that has a spare board supported by LinuxBIOS sitting at your office? Are you developing LinuxBIOS, and just want to know how to use the test system without setting up your own dedicated test hardware? Make sure a bios image you build works on real hardware? Basically the goal should be to have (at least) one test for each requirement of the software system. There are two IEEE standards for writing specifications for such requirements and test specifications: IEEE Std 829-1998: IEEE Standard for Software Test Documentation IEEE Std 830-1998: IEEE Recommended Practice for Software Requirements Specifications I wrote a requirements specification for LinuxBIOS which is rather incomplete and only scratches the top of the iceberg. Where is the code for serial output. For example if i wanted to change "Jumping to LinuxBios" to Jumping around" where would i find that code?

[LinuxBIOS] trouble with cpu cache

I am having a great deal of difficulty figuring out how to enable the cache on my board. Using memtest86 it is quite obvious that the cache is not running at its correct speed. Is this something I enable in the chipset code or the mainboard code? I tried grepping through the source and I couldn't find a good example of enabling the cache. I noticed the function enable_cache(). I tried executing this somehwere in northbridge.c, but it didn't speed things up. Either I'm using wrong or it is the wrong function to use. I also searched my chipset (intel 855gme) and cpu (pentium m) datasheets for something useful on the subject and found references to MTRR, but no explaination of how to enable cache. Is this along the right track? Any help is much appreciated, Jon

That is on ATI chipset. I am working on one AM2+MCP55 based MB and then someone could use that for PVR or DTC. For laptop support, I need to double check the code about mem support. I only verify the code for AM2 and socket F for Rev F CPU. YH

[LinuxBIOS] development board

I am looking to buy what ever it is I need so I can just step through LinuxBios code on a separate machine. For example I have a 8051 micro controller board and I can download code to its flash via serial and step through the code one line at a time. Is there anything out there so I can do this with LinuxBios? TP

Greetings! Sorry if this is a known question - but I didn't find the information on the subject on FAQ page and mailing list archive seems not to be searchable online. Is it possible to use linuxbios on turion notebook, namely MSI magabook L715? Best regards!
