Could someone please point me in the right direction. I need to enable wake
on Ring for the onboard serial port and/or AC power recovery on a via epia
5000 mainboard.

Did you see the datasheet of the southbridge (vt8231)?
I guess it is a matter of setting right value in the right register,
which should be described in the manual.
Perhaps it can be done after OS is started (outside of LinuxBIOS).
