Why not just keep it simple and just replace it with the same part number you have on there now.
Because these funny ICs which I have right now (SO8, SST25, SPI), are absolutely stupid in sense of connecting wires. Contact spots are less 0.5 x 0.5 mm. Which makes me nervous a bit ;-)
