I guess it's not terribly interesting to coreboot (which already does serial output, right?).
What might be interesting is there's a negotiation stage where a serial device tells the BIOS what dimensions it would prefer. This might be useful for libpayload, when running on headless machines, to adjust its output to match that of the serial device.
