Some directory names have to be done (as described in the patch preamble) to make this work, I left them out of the patch for improved reviewability.
Oh, I forgot one bit: the PPC stuff is work in progress, several things are stubbed and untested. This patch is more about the infrastructure than about the PPC implementation.
