No, any machine with an x86 gcc or cross-gcc will do.

Some gcc versions may cause problems, though all newer 
versions seem to be fine. I'm using some gcc 3.3.5 
preversion and it works fine.

Could you send a more detailed error description (ie the explicit error
line(s) you are seeing.
