I wouldn't think it would be a bad board if the AMI bios works.
When you enabled "Add a VGA BIOS image" and changed the default graphics ID for your VBIOS did you change it from 1002,9830 to 1002,9834?

I also tried the stock AMI BIOS to confirm it still works (and it did).
Do I just have a bad board?
