It's a flash chip ( often w/ RNG and even some GPIO in lines) that speaks a serial protocol somewhat like LPC. Like LPC, it can support larger address spaces with fewer pins than a regular flash.

What is a "firmware hub" ? I've never heard the term before....
It is Intel terminology. I think this particular refers to something like eeprom and thermal noise generator (RNG), plus some other stuff (maybe RTC..)
