Can't believe. Intel spends a lot of efforts to promote their own EFI - why they will to help their competitors?
The technical difference between traditional BIOS and EFI is not crucial for the ethics. What matters ethically is whether the program, as used, is free. If an EFI implementation works with 100% free software, except for subroutines in rom on the chips that they initialize, it would be just as good as any other implementation of a BIOS.
