Hello, all!
I would like to use the BIOS in my old lap-top, Toshiba Satellite 320CDS, but I wasn't able to find if it is supported or not. Do some know this or know how can I find out?
When you say "use the BIOS in my old lap-top," are you asking if you can use LinuxBIOS as a replacement for the factory-installed BIOS on your laptop?
From what I understand, LinuxBIOS does not run on any
(publicly-available) laptop hardware. To quote Uwe Hermann:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.bios/26520 "Correct. No laptop whatsoever (except for the OLPC) is supported by LinuxBIOS at the moment. We definately like to change that, but at the moment there's no support at all."
Now before you consider purchasing an OLPC, please note that Uwe is referring to alpha/beta OLPC hardware; the final mass-produced model does not use LinuxBIOS, and the hardware has changed significantly enough that it would take quite a bit of effort to get it to support LinuxBIOS.
Don't give up hope: a significant number of people (myself included) would very much like to have a laptop that supports LinuxBIOS. If you're interested in making this happen, you might consider staying on the mailing list and seeing what you can do to help LinuxBIOS in general.
