Hello, I would like to make a suggestion. I am a newbie to the LinuxBios world. I love what I have seen so far. I am ok at C, know a little assembly, and would love to contribute to the LinuxBios community. But I am not sure how to get started. I have read just about everything I can get my hands on, but how do I go about developing a new bios for a board? In the FAQ's it talks about some things I would need to get started but where do I go from there. I have datasheets and all kinds of output from linux (dmidecode, lspci, etc.), POST card. Now what? Do I just use the code from another board and alter it to my liking? I don't want to sound negative or upset anyone but I think alot more people would get involved if there was more developer (src) documentation. So, I am going to try to document my journey from point A to B. So the next person that comes along won't be as stumped?? Make sense or is it just me? Can someone tell me where I need to go from here? Thanks - Joe

[LinuxBIOS] [PATCH] Add Winbond W39V080A support to Flashrom

A trivial patch that has served me well for this particular flash chip. It functions identically to some already supported Winbond chips so basically all that was needed was an additional device ID for recognition. I've tested read, erase, and write functionality. As an interesting side note, this particular chip can be set to operate in a mode that divides the chip into two 4Mbit partitions rather than a single 8Mbit partition specifically for dual-BIOS applications. I don't think this really applies to LinuxBIOS since a fallback mechanism is already in place but it may be useful for future design considerations. <linuxbios(a)linuxbios.org>

[LinuxBIOS] Linux kernel for LinuxBIOS?

Hi all, I know if i want to use linux kernel as payload to LinuxBIOS, I must edit the source of Linux source code. I want some more detailed information, such as: 1) what version of Linux? 2.4 or 2.6 2) how to make it tiny? less that 512KB? less than 256KB? 3) what to edit? Is there useable patches? I know Erik Andersen's buildrom maybe help, but when i type "make all" I cannot compile the code successfully. By the way, some source code from net is unaccessable. Don't know why. Regards, Hao Li

Reason: libgcc.a (32bit) is not installed on 64bit systems, only the 64bit version. Solution: Install the package providing the 32bit version of libgcc.a (this static library is not necessarily in the libgcc package). On openSUSE 10.2, this is the gcc41-32bit package.
