Hello, I am looking for a Disk On Chip and ZIF socket for my type of Motherboard. My BIOS chip has 2 sides with 7-pins and 2 sides with 9-pins. If anyone can help me with this I would be grateful because I am interested in the LinuxBIOS project. Motherboard - Jetway 694TAS socket 370 with a VIA chipset. giving the user a boot option

Does anyone think it is possible the offer the user a choice of commandline parameters. I would like to use the serial console, or something else convienient, to allow the user to choose commandline1 or commandline2. One of them mounts root over nfs, the other from the hard drive. I guess this would be a simplified boot loader such as lilo or grub. Unfortunately this 'boot loader' must reside in the flash chip, since my hard drive will initially be completely blank. John

mkelfImage-2.2 and the kernel exec source code, and the elfboot toolkit

Hello from Gregg C Levine Eric a number of questions have arisen. First of all, in the readme files for the kernel exec source code, you recommend that I obtain the elfboot toolkit. The suggested reason, is that its because there is a client for the kexec function inside it. Obviously the make elfImage version that you just supplied is the recommended version so that's not a problem. But what finally happened with the elfboot toolkit? Hello I'm still struggling with the Tyan Tiger MPX (aka S2466). I tested this time with the programs I downloaded from ftp.lnxi.com, compiling from the tar packet and using etherboot 5.1.5 as payload. It loads the kernel from the tftp server but when it should jump to the kernel, it just dies. I also tried with the pre-made rom image from the rpm-package, with the same result. If I load etherboot from floppy, it gets the kernel from the tftp server and starts it up ok. Any ideas how to proceed ? Regards : Jarmo

mkelfImage 2.2 is a bug fix release, available at: ftp://ftp.lnxi.com/pub/src/mkelfImage/mkelfImage-2.2.tar.gz rpm -bb mkelfImage-2.2.tar.gz builds a binary rpm. In some cases when working with the latest versions of etherboot the i386 stub code would get confused and use the wrong table address. The result is that the kernel image would just hang. That problem is now fixed. Eric

I think the .ldscript is giving a fixed-size linuxbios without regard to how big it actually is, which means tuning via things like max log message etc. is no longer a real option. It also means my etherboot, which is 17K, no longer fits together with linuxbios into 64K. OK, back to the drawing board :-) ron

objcopy -O binary behaviour

this is interesting and I just hit it. objcopy -O binary appears to be rounding the output to the page size. So, in some cases, your binary will GROW, not shrink, when you do this: objcopy -O binary linuxbios linuxbios.strip So for example I have a 46024-byte linuxbios, which grows to 49152 bytes AFTER it is stripped. most inconvenient. I'm trying to figure out what makes this happen. It's not a great thing, however. Even older objcopy's do it, e.g. 2.13.90.2 does it, but so does 2.11.90.0.8 I love BFD but somedays I think it wants to kill me. ron

X and linuxbios

Are there known problems with XFree86 and linuxbios? I use a pcchips motherboard with linuxbios from cwlinux.com, and when I start Xfree86 it says 'v_bios not found' and refuses to start. Any hints? -- How to build a lirc receiver http://www.manoweb.com/alesan/lirc
