Maybe floppy problem is with detect low or high density. Most of the FDD does not have switch for switching between low and high density. Some FDD - especially older have a switch e.g. SAMSUNG SFD-321B/LEB (LEB series). Apparently this is one of the better FDD. Please look at this forum about LEB series that solve problems with CPCdiskXP:

Your past logs indicate that seabios found a 1.44Mb floppy in a 1.44Mb drive:
08.530: Floppy_media_sense on drive 0 found rate 0
If you weren't using 1.44Mb floppies, then something went very wrong. Otherwise, I'm not sure how the above could be related to the failure you are seeing.
