Friends, I need your help. While trying to improve SeaBIOS I got stuck at this very strange problem - which does not appear when you do a standalone build of SeaBIOS but it happens when you try building a coreboot together with SeaBIOS. Steps to reproduce: add this innocent looking function to the beginning of ./coreboot/payloads/external/SeaBIOS/seabios/src/fw/coreboot.c : int // doesn't matter if static or not testfunc(void) { int *c = malloc_tmp(sizeof(int)); // doesn't matter if _tmp or _tmphigh // free(c); // <--- commented out because doesn't affect the results return 0; } and try calling it from "cbfs_copyfile" function of the same file: static int cbfs_copyfile(struct romfile_s *file, void *dst, u32 maxlen) { ... void *temp = malloc_tmphigh(size); ... int ret = ulzma(dst, maxlen, temp, size); testfunc(); // <--- added ... } Then I get this problem while building a coreboot with together SeaBIOS : ... And why it is OK to call "malloc_" from inside the "cbfs_copyfile" function --- void *temp = malloc_tmphigh(size); --- but we couldn't call there our testfunc() which calls "malloc_" without running into this problem? Bug report for 'vga none' qemu option not working any more

I'm running a lot of qemu + kvm + seabios VMs and after upgrade to Debian 9 I found that some of them stopped booting. After trying to change kernel/qemu/seabios versions, I've nailed down the cause to the following: # VM definition qemu-system-x86_64 \ -enable-kvm \ -machine q35 \ -m 512 \ -nodefaults \ -cpu host \ -smp 1,sockets=1,cores=1,threads=1 \ -bios /opt/seabios/out/bios.bin \ -device virtio-scsi-pci,id=scsi \ -drive file="disk.img",id=disk,format=raw,if=none,cache=unsafe,aio=threads \ -device scsi-hd,drive=disk,bus=scsi.0,removable=off \ -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=net0,mac=$("../qemu-mac-hasher.py" "test") \ -netdev tap,id=net0,script="../ifup.sh",downscript="../ifdown.sh" \ -chardev stdio,id=seabios -device isa-debugcon,iobase=0x402,chardev=seabios \ -vga none \ -nographic This VM doesn't boot with modern seabios, but it used to work. And now, if I change 'vga none' to 'vga std' in it, it starts booting again. So we must run the blk and scsi virtio drivers in 32bit mode, otherwise we can't access them. This also allows to drop a bunch of GET_LOWFLAT calls from the virtio code in the following patches. For using an upstream SeaBIOS build, you might have to apply the patch manually. Can you check if you are using a CentOS 7 SeaBIOS package that is at least this recent? ... In fact, I see a private (Red Hat only) reminder under the Knowledge Base article that we should update the "Known Issues" text, regarding BZ#1377575, once the related updates are out. Given that both BZs above are in CLOSED ERRATA status, I'm going to ping our docs guys now. :) ... Hi, It seems BZ#1377575 refers to Red Hat's Bugzilla bug which is restricted: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1377575 You should contact Red Hat support for details. Dear SeaBIOS development members, I'm Shota Uehara work for Yokogawa Electric Corporation. I would like to confirm the status about a bug fixing of BZ#1377575. I use Windows Server 2016 virtual machine on qemu-kvm with CentOS 7. And now I attempt to add a dedicated virtual device to qemu-kvm, and develop its device driver for WS2016. For debugging the windows driver I want to get a crash dump on WS2016, however it doesn't be created. According to RedHat knowledge base, that is a Windows incompatibility issue to SeaBIOS, as known BZ#1377575. <https://access.redhat.com/articles/2470791#known-issues-14> Therefore, I have 2 questions as follows; (1) Could you tell me the current status about a bug fixing of BZ#1377575 ?
