Too bad it is that close to the qemu release. We've missed rc0 + rc1 and doing a non-stable branch seabios update in qemu _now_ doesn't look like a good idea to me.

Still it is a big step forward, even if the bios side will not be enabled yet in 1.7.0.

Absolutely: the main driver for 1.7.0 is alternative firmware, in following releases we'll have new features building on this, so we'll need an updated bios.
We should probably update the bios early in the 1.8 cycle.
