Hello, all. I've been successfully using SeaBIOS as secondary bootloader. In more details I have GRUB2-as-payload in flash together with coreboot. SeaBIOS binary is on the HDD and loaded by GRUB when needed. This has an unfortunate consequence that I have to keep vga oprom in flash even if usually I boot without it. The following series of patches make bios.bin.raw multiboot executable with files passed as modules. Example: menuentry "SeaBIOS (mb)" --unrestricted { root=ahci0,2 multiboot /bios.bin.raw module /vgabios_x230.rom name=pci8086,0166.rom } the parameter name= specifies under which name SeaBIOS will see it.

I pushed it just a bit farther. I downloaded dmidecode.exe from http://www.bttr-software.de/ports/ and added it to my FreeDOS floppy. It probably help that FreeDOS supports long file names because dmidecode is 9 characters (8 being the normal DOS limit). The message is the same on the laptop: Open DMI pipe failed! But on my P4 ICH4 desktop, it works now. Also, after reading: http://www.flashrom.org/Laptops I am less enclined to try. I did install latest BIOS with Toshiba flash program... the file being 512.25Kb, which suggest a 128 bytes header to study... not feeling like trying.

I managed to make a FreeDOS floppy disk with flashrom.exe version 0.9.6.1-r1705 but flashrom -p internal results in Open DMI pipe failed! error message. Which suggest that it could be harder (too hard) to do.

My friend have acquired a cheap Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. But the hard drive is locked: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA#HDD_passwords_and_security Well, I was not aware of internal password in hard drive firmware before that. Anyway, the ACPI BIOS in that, is not collaborating. If you don't know the hard disk password, it won't boot... and close computer after 3 failed tries. I have tried to connect the hard drive, while OS was in grub, but then, neither DOS or Linux seems to see the hard disk... (no /dev/sda ... program to remove the password in DOS does not able to see the Hard disk). Quite like when you disable the hard drive in BIOS (which I never understood how it works. So I thought about flashing the laptop with Coreboot/Seabios... which I never did (was not seeing much benefit for the risk). But this time, the possibility to boot the OS then used hdparm or MHDD to secure erase (low-level format) [I believe the password is not necessary for that] seems to make it worth to try. The hardware seems to be Intel Pentium 3, ICH2, i830 chipset. Do you think Seabios would allowed to boot OS with locked drive if I don't know the password? Does this looks like the hardware would be supported by the Seabios (I can give more info on the hardware... because Laptop works well without the hard disk).

[PATCH] Make CONFIG_ATA_DMA and CONFIG_ATA_PIO32 default on

Currently running make defconfig will leave the above turned off which, at least for the Xen/QEMU use-case, means VMs will boot very slowly. There seems to have been some concern over non-QEMU use of ATA_DMA about five years ago, but I can find no particular concern over ATA_PIO32. Given the increased use of QEMU and Xen in that period it would seem like a good idea to default both of these on now. This patch does that. [PATCH v9 0/6] Add TPM support to SeaBIOS

This is a repost of a series of patches providing TPM support to SeaBIOS. As an addition, this patch series now works on the Acer C720 Chromebook with limitations (S3 not getting invoked; no logging into TCPA table). The patch series cleanly applies to a checkout of a1ac8861. The following set of patches add TPM and Trusted Computing support to SeaBIOS. In particular the patches add: - a TPM driver for the Qemu's TPM TIS emulation - Support for initialzation of the TPM - init of TCPA logging table - Support for the TCG BIOS extensions (1ah handler [ah = 0xbb]) (used by trusted grub; http://trousers.sourceforge.net/grub.html) - Static Root of Trusted for Measurement (SRTM) support - Support for S3 resume (sends command to TPM upon resume) - Support for sending control messages from the OS to the BIOS and have the BIOS control certain life-cycle aspects of the TPM following those messages - TPM-specific menu for controlling aspects of the TPM All implementations necessarily follow specifications.
