Yeah, this specific case would be fine I guess. I was updating the format specifiers for the snprintf calls, and I realized that the buffer didn't need to be that big, so I made that change.
As for the Coverity warning, I suspect smbios_add_string is triggering it. Because `t->eos` is allocated indirectly and coverity probably thinks that it is only a two char buffer.

PS4, Line 552: static unsigned short cnt = 0;
> Why change the type?
`buf` is only 8 bytes long, so `cnt` should not occupy more than 4 bytes. This would only be okay for a `uint8_t`.
So, it should actually be `static unsigned short short cnt`. It seems I probably need to update it.

Well, they shouldn't be *too* big. I've sent patches to the EDK2 mailing list, and you're CC'ed as a maintainer, Sean. I've tested that it's now correct according to BDS, but I haven't tested S4. One of ACPI reclaim or ACPI NVs also needed a slight increase.
I don't entirely know the context this "above/below 4G" was added, but "below 4G" was the default behaviour before UefiPayload dropped PEI phase. It seems the HOB generation was lost then. But this behaviour only seems to be an artifact of how EDK2 uses the heap, while it's intended for keeping the memory map defragmented. And the DXE core uses it to find a good memory range of sufficient size.
Qubes needed below 4G? I think this happens to be the correct behaviour in all cases. I also think that fixes the memory map from EDK2's perspective, hopefully.

We could have coreboot set those to something big by default, better working that not. I assume only PcdMemoryTypeEfiRuntimeServicesData and PcdMemoryTypeEfiRuntimeServicesCode need changing?
The above4g is enabled by coreboot by default, was added for some distros - Qubes, was one of them. It might not be needed anymore.

Benjamin Doron has uploaded a new patch set (#31) to the change originally created by Patrick Rudolph. ( https://review.coreboot.org/c/coreboot/+/52564 )
Change subject: drivers/efi: Add EFI variable store option support
......................................................................
drivers/efi: Add EFI variable store option support
Add a driver to read and write EFI variables stored in a region device.
This is particularly useful for EDK2 as payload and allows to reuse
existing EFI tools to set/get options used by the firmware.
The write implementation is fault tolerant and doesn't corrupt the
variable store. A faulting write might result in using the old value
even though a 'newer' had been completely written.
Implemented basic unit tests for header corruption, writing existing
data and append new data into the store.
Initial firmware region state:
Initially the variable store region isn't formatted. Usually this is
done in the EDK2 payload when no valid firmware volume could be found.
It might be useful to do this offline or in coreboot to have a working
option store on the first boot or when it was corrupted.
Performance improvements:
Right now the code always checks if the firmware volume header is valid.
This could be optimised by caching the test result in heap. For write
operations it would be good to cache the end of the variable store in
the heap as well, instead of walking the whole store. For read
operations caching the entire store could be considered.
Reclaiming memory:
The EFI variable store is append write only. To update an existing
variable, first a new is written to the end of the store and then the
previous is marked invalid. This only works on PNOR flash that allow to
clear set bits, but keep cleared bits state.
This mechanisms allows a fault tolerant write, but it also requires to
"clean" the variable store for time to time. This cleaning would remove
variables that have been marked "deleted".
Such cleaning mechanism in turn must be fault tolerant and thus must use
a second partition in the SPI flash as backup/working region.
For now to cleaning is done in coreboot.
Fault checking:
The driver should check if a previous write was successful and if not
mark variables as deleted on the next operation.
Tested and working:
- Enumerate all existing variables
- Read variables
- Write variables
