Well, okay, I guess there's not that many implementations for the devicetree.cb version (i2c_bus.h). But there are many implementations for i2c_simple.h, and the two are kinda meant to be two sides of the same coin.

If you want 0-byte writes then yes, I think fixing transfer() to do that right would be better than adding a separate method.
