The tast design principles (https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/platform/tast/+/HEAD/docs/desig...) do mention communication happening over a single persistent ssh connection, but I suspect changing that wouldn't be overly controversial. Have you considered trying to remove the assumption from tast?
