That sounds even worse. Why we can't have memory info if the dram_info is not in the blob? Can we update the reference (in 3rdparty) info? Or can we make a config to indicate if the memory ref code has size info?

Deleting assertion sounds wrong. We should not call the function if the device can't support it.
