I understand, but practically speaking, the coreboot implementation is identical for the two, modulo the one new callback in MP2 and the change in ABI (removing the 1 parameter from MP2).

I think it makes sense in general, when interfacing to binary blobs, to segregate the ABI and its implementation.

Because of the separate mps1.c/mps2.c, it can still be simple for an SoC to select which implementation the FSP requires.
