But the reference patch already exists (CB:52362), why would I duplicate a chunk of it in another patch? My understanding of situation is that CB:52362 is not going anywhere because no one approves it. And I agree with Peter, it seems wrong to call read_flash_to_file without a filename.
In any case, CB:52362 has a goal of "Make -r/-w/-v argument optional" which does not mention -x at all. I can see it fixes do_extract, but it is kind of a side-effect.
As I said, I would really prefer to re-write do_extract to only do what it needs to do. If the only thing from read_flash_to_file which is useful is write_buf_to_include_args, then let's just call write_buf_to_include_args?

PS13:
You need to explain what have you done in the latest patchset :) I was looking into diffs between PS12 and 13.
File tests/chip_wp.c:
https://review.coreboot.org/c/flashrom/+/59075/comment/bbd36603_abcc7f72
PS13, Line 260: 1
I am a bit confused, this used to be 0 (successful case) and now set_mode fails? with the same input?
https://review.coreboot.org/c/flashrom/+/59075/comment/6fdc4dcb_b52bfc67
PS13, Line 390: /* Protect first 4 KiB. */
The comment has changed to opposite meaning, but range remains the same? Maybe I am missing something, but now range covers "tail"?

Change subject: [RFC][WPTST] dummyflasher: enforce write protection for W25Q128FV

Patch Set 12:

PS12:
If this patch completes wp emulation in dummyflasher, can it be tested from command line? I mean doing read, write, wp enable, disable etc etc from command line with dummy programmer. Dummy exists for much longer than unit tests, and it has been used from command line even without tests.
If yes and you can test this from command line, if you can add commands you tested into commit description - that would be perfect!
