PS2:
We should make this code work with parallel flash chips too. Here's why.
It should be noted that ezoflash is a simplified version of willem that only handles parallel flash chips. Way back then I assembled one on a solderless breadboard to flash my infamous Apex AD-600A DVD player before building my PCB3B. While PCB3B has sockets for DIP SPI chips (and much more), it will not achieve the kind of throughput other solutions can, just because parallel port is so slow plus you are bit-banging SPI over it.
To be able to serve both parallel and SPI, we need to either have the code change protocol on the fly (ie. probe for parallel chips first, then SPI chips, or vice versa, then stick with the one for chip found), or have the user specify the protocol via programmer options.

Patch Set 2:

PS2:
I did a quick look, I have few things, tell me what you think:
1) You need to add a manpage entry for ezo into `doc/classic_cli_manpage.rst`. From that file, manpage is generated and also a webpage https://flashrom.org/classic_cli_manpage.html .
We have a doc https://flashrom.org/how_to_add_docs.html but if this is a trouble I can help: you can write a text and I can generate docs and check formatting etc.
2) Add your copyright, in the beginning of the file. You made significant changes.
3) Update commit message, make a title "Add programmer for <...>" and then write a commit description of the ezo programmer. You can add historical links (to patchwork or mailing list) to commit description, just check that links are still working.
4) Remove global state (lpt_iobase). We had a big effort some time ago to remove global state from programmers, and most of them were done (not all though).
For example this is the patch for rayer_spi https://review.coreboot.org/c/flashrom/+/54998 . If you agree, I can help with this, I did remove lots of global state from programmers.
5) Fix build errors. I think I can help with this too, but tell me if you want?

I found what was that! Definition of the mock chip was missing `page_size`, so `page_size` was 0 which resulted in infinite loop.
Out of 3 mock chip definitions, 2 had page_size and 1 was missing it :) Exactly that one that I happen to use for progress tests.
I now need to look at TODOs, haven't looked yet

PS2:
hey!
this is the latest version which matches to my up-to-date Gitlab repo. we need to work on the ezo.c file as many function names has changed in the past 5(?) years.
I also think as we are using only the spi interface now, the rayer_spi source could be used for porting the code, which might needs less time.
it's also worth the time to check the other ezoflash related patches, as those might have some other non-spi chip support as well.
i also made a comment in the meson.build file.
File meson.build:
https://review.coreboot.org/c/flashrom/+/23053/comment/e3884763_402a7c8a?us… :
PS2, Line 500:
we might need to use the ezo here as well to maintain consistency, but that wouldn't mention that this patch is only works with the SPI interface for now.

Hi Egils,
thanks for the Ezoflash programmer doc.
I have tried to implement init and SPI flash support correctly, but I
don't own the hardware, so I can't test. A few places are marked FIXME,
and it would be really nice if you could take a look.
I basically took the RayeR SPIPGM driver in flashrom and modified and
extended it.
If your mailer mangles the patch, you can also find it at the top of
http://patchwork.coreboot.org/project/flashrom/list/
Add support for the Ezoflash programmer.
Hopefully complete init.
Only SPI supported for now, and with additional 1 us delay per clock.
Missing shutdown.
Compiles, otherwise untested. If you want to test, please apply the
patch to latest flashrom, then compile with
make CONFIG_EZO=yes
To test the code, run
./flashrom -p ezo -V

Change subject: Complete and fix progress feature implementation for all operations
......................................................................
Complete and fix progress feature implementation for all operations
Original progress reporting implemented in CB:49643 and it has some
issues, for example:
size_t start_address = start;
size_t end_address = len - start;
End address is anything but length minus start address.
update_progress(flash,
FLASHROM_PROGRESS_READ,
/*current*/ start - start_address + to_read,
/*total*/ end_address);
Total should just be length if that's how current value is computed.
---
libflashrom needs to know total size ahead of time.
That's init_progress() and changed update_progress().
It also needs to store the last current value to be able to update it.
That's stage_progress in flashrom_flashctx.
Measuring accurately amount of data which will be read/erased/written
isn't easy because things can be skipped as optimizations. The next
patch in the chain aims to address this, there are TODO/FIXME
comments there.
---
CLI shares terminal with the rest of the code and has to maintain more
state to handle that reasonably well.
The progress doesn't just dump lots of stuff on the screen which
probably won't fly because of CB:64668, but it's not hard to adjust
this.
---
A script to test the CLI:
\#!/bin/bash
t=${1:-rewW}
shift
if [[ $t =~ r ]]; then
echo ">>> READ"
./flashrom -p dummy:emulate=W25Q128FV,freq=64mhz -r dump.rom --progress "$@"

Thanks, I got it now. I made other comment in the code, on this topic.
File cli_output.c:

PS4, Line 119: 16 * FLASHROM_PROGRESS_NR
These would be 48? And then 2 backspaces each time, so 92 backspaces?
The output of one callback is max 5chars stage name + space + 2 digits + % sign + ... and that's 12 chars max?
Why do you need 92 backspaces? Maybe I misunderstand something
Does this relate to the part in commit message:
> The progress doesn't just dump lots of stuff on the screen which
probably won't fly because of CB:64668, but it's not hard to adjust
this.
I read the linked patch, it seems the concern was that if you try to delete previous stage of progress, you can accidentally delete some other messages. But the concern is still valid right?
File include/flash.h:

I think (I think) I understand. From the point of view of libflashrom user, the user enables the progress flag, sets progress callback (maybe with custom user_data), and then just runs whatever operations are needed. So the user controls the callback, but all the information needed for the callback is already contained in flashrom_progress.
Is this correct?
