In fact, I am working on a patch which will do exactly that. Right now the whole flashrom infrastructure is oriented to erase-in-bulk/write-in-bulk, but over the last few weeks a few patches have been merged which will allow us to perform partial writes and partial erases on an as-needed basis. Two patches for this sort of operation are still unmerged because we want to release the current well-tested state of flashrom as 0.9.3 first, and then change the internal interfaces in one go and give the codebase a few weeks to stabilize. I am not sure if this was discussed before, but i would suggest to skip programming blocks/areas which should be programmed to the erased state. E.g. if half of the input file consists of 0xFF areas, we could half the programming time. And on chips where read is much faster than erase (e.g. SST 25VF...) we can speed up erasing if we do a read before erase and only erase that blocks that are not already in the erased state. Speedup SST 25VF032B and 25VF064C programming

I have tested both SST 25VF032B and SST 25VF064C on a QM57 (IbexPeak) system and found that the reprogramming of these chips is very slow. So i have changed the programming engine for the 25VF064C from "spi_chip_write_1" to "spi_chip_write_256". I have tested the 25VF064C with the new engine and it works fine. For the 25VF032B i have changed the programming engine from "spi_chip_write_1" to "spi_aai_write". I have tested this engine, too, and found it working (speedup was from 228 to 113 seconds). While testing i found that some commands needed by some of the algorithms are not in the OPCODE table. So i have implemented the on-the-fly reprogramming of the OPCODE table (in the ICH engine).

I have added support for some new intel chipsets. (At least) for the QM57 which i have tested an additional patch was needed as some reserved bits in the "Software Sequencing Flash Control Register" (SSFC) needs to be programmed to 1 in the QM57. How disable Laptop Check!

Hello, on my table there is a HP NC6400 Laptop and I want to the use flashrom tool. But there is a DMI-Laptop scan detection that disables further operations with the flashtool. How can I disable this scan to use the flashrom tool? Best regards

Hi all, I have a SuperMicro H8QG6/i-F motherboard, which I recently attempted to flash with flashrom. As per the man page, I probed the rom first, then made a backup of the current state, which I have. Initially, the probe reported my chip as a "SST SST25VF016B", with the probe, read, and write operations supported. I attempted to flash another copy of the current rom (obtained from super micro's website), and it complained about not being able to erase, then said "SUCCESS" and "done", and "COMPLETE". Then it started verifying, and the verify failed. I then tried to restore the backup I had made, and it now reports the chip as a "SST unknown SST SPI chip", with all four operations not working. Attached are the output of the failed flash attempt, and a probe from after that attempt. Thanks, --Colin
