AFAICT, everybody agrees that this is a false-positive, is that right? If so,
please make sure the commit message is 100% correct, whatever you choose
to merge. Because then it's not a fix for anything in flashrom, certainly
not a bug fix, but a workaround to assist limited path analysis.

Btw. also under the assumption that this is a false-positive, is there no
way to make the compiler/scan-build run through without changing the code?
